Yesterday – as Graham W pointed out – was the current Mrs. Masher’s birthday (and a belated Happy Birthday to you, G… same day, isn’t it?).
So, last week, we booked a restaurant in that there Milton Keynes; we booked a movie to watch afterwards at the Multiplex and a hotel so we could stay over and have a couple of drinks.
It was all going to be a bit tight, but we carefully worked out our timings and thought it was all do-able: arrive at the hotel for 6pm; dinner at 7pm; pictures at 8.30pm; back to the hotel; couple of drinks; let’s see what happens; sleep.
It was a cunning plan that was ultimately destined to fail.
We arrived at the hotel dead on time at 6:20, having gone to the wrong hotel. How many Premier Inns does one town need?!
Just as we were checking in, the restaurant phoned to say they’d had a gas leak and that whilst they were still open, they now had a very, very restricted menu. They suggested that we cancel and book a later date.
We cancelled.
So, then we had to find a restaurant that had availability at short notice on a Friday night. Looking out of the hotel bedroom window, I could see a Subway not too far away. I suggested this to Mrs. M, but it went down like a 12 inch Chicken Teryaki on Italian toasted with double cheese and all the salad stuff with extra jalapenos and Sweet Onion sauce. No olives.
So, we ended up in TGI Friday’s, which I have to say, was really rather good, despite the overly chatty waitress… good atmosphere and excellent food.
However, by the time we had finished eating, there wasn’t enough time for us to go to the pictures, so we just headed back to the bar in the hotel. Luckily, it was only walking distance, but it was still a slog in the cold wind, as Storm Eunice dragged her entrails across Buckinghamshire.
The full monty Premier Inn breakfast, this morning, killed off the minor hangover that I was nursing and then we headed home, to find the poor dog with her paws crossed: neither kid having thought to take her out for her morning constitutional.
Lazy sods.
Glad you managed to sort something out for Mrs M even though plans didn’t pan out as you’d hoped. For me a Nando’s would have sufficed (do you remember it was many years ago you introduced to the grilled chicken delights at MK?) as it’s one of our go-to restaurants when we can’t be asked to cook.
And not quire right, it was my birthday on the 11th but it was our lad Matt’s yesterday. With my youngest child turning 30, I’m am feeling older with no twenty-somethings anymore.
Yes, I do remember,
(Un)fortunately, Nando’s is too regular a visit for us to deem it a treat.]
Even more belated on the birthday front, then!
Matt has turned 30? Little Matt? Jeez… we is old.
What a lovely itinerary you had. See what happens? 🙂 Belated to Mrs M (and G above). I’m intrigued as to which flick you were off to see but didn’t, though.
Death On The Nile.
Well done to save the day
