I mentioned several posts back that I got done for speeding on the motorway.ย 47mph on the M1. In one of those variable speed limit areas, where they had dropped the speed to forty.
To be honest, I’m not sure I even remember seeing any signage and was likely just driving along with the flow of traffic.
Any road up (pun intended), earlier this week, I attended the “Motorway Awareness Course” that they kindly offered me. For ninety quid.
And you know what… it was actually quite good and certainly better than three points on my licence.
I’d gone there, full of indignant anger and a pocketful of questions relating to motorway signage, and I came away feeling much better and with all my questions answered.
I think I actually enjoyed it.
I think the other 22 people on the course with me, quite enjoyed it too and it doesn’t do any harm to have a refresher every now and then, does it?
I even made a suggestion that they said they would pass on to Highways England for consideration:ย those red X’s on the gantry which mean the lane is closed, should have another sign underneath that says “BMW drivers: this applies to you too”.
Now, this is where my mate Tom Tom comes in with all manner of active camera alerts and speed warnings.
Do not think I would have enjoyed parting with ยฃ90.
Microsoft make the sat nav that’s built in to my car… say no more ๐
‘BMW drivers, this applies to you’ should be on every single roadsign. And possibly ‘Mercedes drivers…’ (etc)
And VW Golf drivers.
But if we carry on down that route, we’ll end up having to widen the roads to accomade the huge signs.
Other ๐๐ are available.
You mean Vauxhall Astra divers? ๐
Funny that, this Astra driver has never had a ticket for driving too fast (even before the days of satnav). Can’t beat having a trusty VM car.
