At the weekend, Mrs M decided that we needed to do our bit to help the ailing economy.
The best way to do this, she reasoned, was by frequenting a local restaurant and giving them our custom.
Besides, she really fancied a steak.
And so, we made a reservation at our local Harvester (other restaurant chains are available) and had ourselves a big lump of sirloin each, along with all the trimmings.
Oh God, it was good!
They say that absence makes the heart grow fonder, and maybe it does: we would usually eat out two or three times a month, but this was the first time since lockdown.
Social distancing measures were in place, with a reduced number of tables at which to sit and the waitress stood a healthy distance away whilst she took our order, and then placed both drinks and food at arms length on the edge of the table for us to take ourselves.
At no point did I feel at risk and we had a most enjoyable night out.
Well done, Harvester (other restaurant chains are available).
I’m now interested to see how the re-opening of cinemas is going to work. Eating popcorn whilst wearing a surgical mast, will be a bit weird.
But then, weird is the new normal, isn’t it?
I miss the cinema. I don’t miss eating out. But I do miss people-watching. I quite like Harvester though. There isn’t one of those in the village, sadly.
